I love decorating for the holidays and always add a special holiday touch to the guest room so our guests feel welcome. I mix in a few old favorite holiday decorations with a few new ones. This year the mistletoe pillow was the must have item that got me excited to decorate the guest room. I just needed to add a few more items to complete the room. Here are 5 ways to add holiday cheer to a bedroom.
1. Holiday Linens
I recommend to add holiday linen to the bed. It can be something simple like holiday sheets, blanket or quilt. You don’t have to go all out and buy a full set. Just one item is enough to add a little holiday cheer. In my case, I bought red and white ticking euro shams (they can also be used year round). I bought them to coordinate with my existing quilt. I then found the softest blanket in a creamy white and tan color with bears and snowflakes. At first it wasn’t coordinating well with my existing quilt and I thought that I would have to return it. Then all of a sudden I realized that the reverse side of my quilt was solid red. I never paid attention to the back side before. So I flipped it over and it coordinated perfectly with my new shams and blanket. I just love accidental decorating! Here is a before and after picture of the bedding in the guest room. I still used my regular shams even though they didn’t have a holiday pattern as they went nicely with the solid red.
2. Holiday Pillow
The mistletoe pillow was the item that kick started me in the right direction. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for the guest room with the red and tan colors. I liked the simplicity of the pillow with a sweet description of the word.
I already had this other throw pillow from last year which coordinated perfectly with the cozy swivel chair in the corner and room.
3. Tree with Lights
It’s not Christmas without a tree with lights. In this case I added three trees. The trees on the nightstand have timers on the lights which are programmed to go on once it gets dark. It’s very inviting for our guests to walk into a room all lit up.
Just a few ornaments in the room add to the festivities. Who can’t help but smile seeing colorful balls. I added a few to the lanterns that I already had.
I was able to squeeze two into my small lantern on the nightstand.
5. Natural Elements
Last but not least, I feel each room needs a touch of natural elements that helps provide a casual feel to the room. I placed a few pinecones on each nightstand and on the dresser. I also hung an olive branch wreath at the end of the bed.
And that’s my ideas on how to add holiday cheer to a bedroom.
