Fall is one of my favorite seasons to decorate. I can go crazy decorating for fall but I try to contain myself because after the season is over I have to store all the decor that I have accumulated. So I make a point to limit my fall decor to one storage bin (although it’s a large bin). Seriously though, it’s very easy to decorate for fall and here are my 5 must have fall decor items to tied you over until pumpkin season begins.
I start off decorating with apples. September is the perfect month to pull out your apple decor. These faux apples can be easily thrown into a wooden bowl or basket. You don’t need to add much else to them. They are perfect as is. Love the punch of green amongst all the browns and oranges.
2. Faux pumpkins
I have several collections of faux pumpkins. These lightweight ones I purchased at Pottery Barn last year and luckily they still sell them this year so I added a few more to my collection. They look great in a large dough bowl or a wooden tray. This year I lined the tray with burlap material and added real magnolia leaves and a large candle.
There are so many large faux pumpkins out there. Each year I want to add to my collection but have to remind myself that I have some already and really don’t need to purchase anymore. Pumpkins are perfect in front of a fireplace, entry, porch, etc.
Pinecones are a great fall decor item and can transition into winter also. If you’re lucky enough to have some in your yard, that’s great. I have to purchase them at the local craft store. I also purchase colorful faux pinecones. They make great vase fillers or simply place in a large basket. Acorns are also a great accents.
4. Fall pillows and throw
Everyone must have a fall pillow and throw. They can be placed anywhere… front porch, entry, family room chair, wicker basket, etc.
One little fall pillow can make a big impact.
Throws can be used as tablecloths too. Love the warmth and texture it brings to the table.
Don’t forget mums! You can’t have fall without mums! I love the bright yellow ones but also like to mix in the burgundy ones. Don’t forget about crotons too! They add so much color and seem to last longer than mums.
That’s really all you need to decorate for fall until the pumpkin season starts.
